ROW Summer Swim School is a great way to introduce swimmers to the sport of swimming! Whether your child is just emerging in their swim abilities or they want to 'boost' their skills - ROW Summer Swim School offers a full range of camps to suit swimmers of all ages and skill levels. ROW Spring Turbo Charge Report

April 18, 2012

The ROW Swim Club hosted the annual “Spring Turbo Charge” on the weekend of April 6-8th. This Long Course meet had competing clubs from the region as well as a small team from Costa Rica. The hard working crew of officials and volunteers from ROW staged a great three day meet and the ROW swimmers took advantage of this turning in great performances. The Club will be saving a lot in postage as most of the medals will not have to be mailed out. The ROW Swim Team had 68 different swimmers win a total of 216 medals, 89 of the Gold variety. Jasmine Raines not only did a clean sweep of the breast stroke events, but also broke a club record in the 50 breast, going 35.95s. 2012 Olympic Trials

Three swimmers made the trip to Montreal to represent ROW at the 2012 Olympic Trials.

ROW swimmer Margot Cunningham, swimming at the University of Toronto, competed in the 100 Free and the 100 & 200 Back events. Zach Summerhayes, also swimming at the U of T, competed in just one event, the 200 IM, where he finished a strong 10th place. Zach’s younger brother Luke Summerhayes swam in two events doing lifetime best times in the 200 Back and the 200 IM. Head Coach Russ Franklin remarked “Not everyone can make the Olympic Team but just being here and competing at this level is quite an achievement. These three swimmers will be back at the 2016 Trials to give it another shot!


ROW Swimathon 2012 - Report Swimathon Package Collection

Monday March 26th

Thanks to everyone for making our 2012 Swimathon another great success. We had tremendous participation across all levels within the Club and it was great to see so many parents counting laps on Saturday.

Our Swim Cap Design contest winner this year is McKenzie Bender-Jones with her Pink creation. Should really look good in the pool. Special thanks to Dave Reibel for running this competition for us again.

A reminder that you have until April 14th to get your sponsorships wrapped up (and to raise more money if you can). Swimathon Committee representatives will be in the lobby at the start times of practices next week to be able to start receiving your Sponsorship List, Donations and signed Family Affidavit.

Once all the sponsorships are tallied up we will announce the winners of the PRIZES - a BlackBerry PlayBook, BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Torch.

Cameron McCuaig in Ontario ParaSport Games!

March 10, 2012

Region of Waterloo Swim Club is pleased to announce the results for the Ontario ParaSport Winter Games, held this past February in Huntsville, Ontario. Cameron McCuaig was one of over 500 athletes who traveled to the games to participate in one of six different sports that are a part of the games.

Cameron swam in five events, and despite not picking up any new personal bests, he did come home with four top three finishes. Cameron picked up a gold medal in the 100 back, silvers in the 50 fly and back, and a bronze medal in the 50 free. We are thrilled with Cameron’s participation in the meet, and will be excited to see his swimming in the long course season.

Both coach and athlete came home with great memories and experiences, and look forward to participating in future Para Games.


Western Ontario Sting Meet

February 15, 2012

This past weekend The Region of Waterloo Swim Club held hosted the annual “Western Ontario Sting Meet”.

ROW had some outstanding swims, and ruled the pool, leaving the meet with over 50 best times, 19 gold medals, 12 silvers and 14 bronzes. In total ROW had over 60 top ten finishes, racking in more than 2,000 points and first place in the team rankings.

From our Silver group Aidan Elliot placed first in the 100 back with a two second best time as well as first in the 200 IM. Also congrats to Breanna Karst placing first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:45.87 and to Sarah Shearer and McKenzie Bender-Jones, both placing first in the 100 fly, both with best times.

We also had some outstanding swims from our Bronze groups. Asim Mahmoud placing 1st in the 100 IM, Bianca Armbruster bringing home 3 golds and 2 silvers, Shannon Kwan bringing home a gold in the 50 meter freestyle, and Nir Oyberman placing first in the 100 Fly.

For many ROW athletes the Sting meet was their first taste of a real swim meet, we would like to congratulate Hannah Regehr, Trinity Mueller, Emma Hillier, Faith McKay, Rianna Atwal, Emma Darrigan, Victoria Chai, Jeffrey Luo, Kieran McKnight Drayton, Simika Atwal, Juli Merry, Ian Friesen, David Ko, AJ Elliott, Kristian Kennedy, Erik Lungulescu and Maximus Niu.

ROW is thrilled with the results of the annual Sting Meet, and is excited to see more best times in the future. Congratulations to all ROW swimmers who participated in the meet!


WOSA Regional Short Course Championship

February 8, 2012

Sixty fired up swimmers from the Region of Waterloo Swim Club competed at Western Ontario Swimming Association’s Championship meet held at the Canada Games pool in London Ontario February 3-5. The Team finish a strong second with 811 points behind the host club from London with 1048 and ahead of the third place team from Guelph. There were 28 teams from the region who competed.

The competition is a showcase for the up and coming swimmers of the Region. It also serves as a “last chance” to qualify for the Jr. Provincials in March. Swimmers from ROW did not disappoint - sixteen swimmers achieved provincial times at this meet!

Thirty swimmers reached the medal podium at least once bringing home a total of 67 individual medals (click here for list of medal winners). The Club’s relay teams also took more than their fair share of the precious metals, with nine medals in total, five of them gold!

Congratulations to all Swimmers and Coaches who participated in this very successful swim meet!!


ROW Winter Invitational - Great Start to 2012!

The ROW Winter Invitational was held Jan 21-22 at the Laurier Pool. This was the first meet of 2012 for ROW, and they really kicked the year off with a bang! With Aylmer, Cambridge, Chatham, the Brock Niagara Aquatics and the Norfolk Hammerheads travelling to the meet as the competition for ROW, we had some down right great swims!!!

ROW gobbled up over 50 gold medals during the competition, with Cassandra Holtby leading the way by winning the 100 Free, 200 Free, 50 Fly, 100 Fly, and 200 IM. She took home the high point trophy for the 15 and over women for her efforts. Adam Mackenzie, Erik Bumbulis, Mckayla Myers, Gordon Fountain, Jenny Zhang, Lauren Shearer, Felicia Nguyen, and Bradley Shushack all won multiple events during the weekend.

ROW now sets their targets ahead to the Regional Championships that will be held in London Ontario next weekend and the Provincial Championships in March.


ROW Sending Six Swimmers to International Children's Games

ROW has developed swimmers from age 5 through to adult since 1976. From stroke development and fitness to world competition, ROW swimmers have represented Canada with medal performances at the Olympics, World Championships, Commonwealth Games, Pan Am Games and World Cups, as well as representing the community at the International Children's Games, Provincial and Regional Championships, and local meets. As Kitchener-Waterloo's premiere competitive swim club, ROW is very fortunate to be able to provide nationally certified coaches to work with its swimmers. ROW offers not only full season programs but also Summer Camps and Community Involvement programs throughout the year.
