Christine Furniss Bio

Christine has a very broad knowledge of swimming stemming from her own competitive swimming career and from her experience as a lifeguard and instructor. She has been a certified lifeguard and swimming instructor since 1996 and an aquafit instructor since 2006. She has many additional Lifesaving Society and Red Cross certifications including AED, Advanced Instructor and Anaphylaxis Rescuer among others.

Her competitive career started with the Delhi Waterdragons Swim Team and continued with the Simcoe Hammerheads and the Piranhas of Woodstock (POW). At the age of 16, Christine became the assistant coach of the Delhi Waterdragons and was promoted to the Head Coach for the subsequent 2 years until leaving to attend college.

In 2001, Christine graduated with a diploma in Police Foundations and worked in private security for Imperial Oil for several years. In 2006, Christine moved to Kitchener and was hired by the City of Kitchener as a Head Lifeguard, Instructor and aquafit instructor where she worked until December 2011.

Christine has been married for 10 years and has 2 young children. This is her second year coaching for ROW and she is
committed to helping all her swimmers reach their full potential while incorporating skills learned both in and out of the pool.
