The 2010/2011 season will be my 8th season coaching with ROW and I am back with the Silver group for a third time. I began coaching for the club as a Summer Swim Camp Coach in 2003 and since then I have coached as the Top 1 Coordinator, Summer Swim Camp Coordinator, and AD3 (Bronze) Group Coach and Coordinator. I am First Aid and NLS certified and I am also currently working on my Skills Coach certification through the NCCP.

I recently retired from a 15 year competitive swimming career in which I competed for ROW, the Waterloo Collegiate Swim Team, and the Wilfrid Laurier Varsity Swim Team. As a club swimmer I swam for Dean Boles and through his coaching I was able to compete in the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Swimming Trials as well as the 2005 Canada Summer Games. As a Varsity Athlete at WLU I was able to qualify for the CIS championships in each of my four year on the team and in both 2006 and 2007 I won the 1500 m freestyle at the OUA championships. Following my second year of swimming at WLU I was chosen as Male Team Captain and I served in this position for my two remaining years on the team. During my final year with WLU Swimming I used my role as Team Captain to raise student awareness of the closure of the WLU pool and was able to run a successful referendum campaign that pledged nearly $1.2 million towards pool repairs. Along with the support of ROW, the Federal and Provincial Governments, and the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo we were able to extend the life of the pool for an estimated 20 years. For my efforts in this project I was awarded the Bill Haggstrom Trophy for Male Contributing Most to Athletics at WLU and a Builder Award from ROW.

Outside of the pool I am a student and recent graduate from Wilfrid Laurier with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry. I will now use my background in these areas to attend the new School of Pharmacy at the University of Waterloo beginning in January 2010. I’m looking forward to continuing my education in the Waterloo area so that I can continue to live here and coach with ROW.
