About ROW

ROW has developed swimmers from age 5 through to adult since 1976. From stroke development and fitness to world competition, ROW swimmers have represented Canada with medal performances at the Olympics, World Championships, Commonwealth Games, Pan Am Games and World Cups, as well as representing the community at the International Children's Games, Provincial and Regional Championships, and local meets. As Kitchener-Waterloo's premiere competitive swim club, ROW is very fortunate to be able to provide nationally certified coaches to work with its swimmers. ROW offers not only full season programs but also Summer Camps and Community Involvement programs throughout the year.

If you would like to join the Region of Waterloo Swim Club, see Registration or Contact Us.

ROW not only produces great swimmers, we develop great people!

Swimmer News

Swimming Loses a Legend: Nick Thierry Passes Away

The Canadian, and global, swimming community is in mourning, as Nick Thierry, the founder and editor of SwimNews magazine, passed away October 2 in a Toronto hospital. He was 73.

Thierry’s most significant contributions to swimming were on dryland. Coaching in Toronto, Thierry put swimmers on three Olympic teams (1964, 1968, 1972), and was a member of the 1970 Commonwealth Games staff. But it is as a statistical mastermind that Thierry will leave a lasting impact on the sport. Over the last 40 years he has become recognized as the world’s foremost swimming statistician. Even before the internet, he developed recording systems that allowed swimmers from around the globe to easily find their standing in the world of swimming. He developed the FINA points system, which assigns a point value to each swim, with 1,000 points being the brass ring for every swimmer around the world. (click here to read more)

New Assistant Head Coach for the ROW Swim Club and WLU Golden Hawks

We are pleased to announce the hiring of Joe Bartoch to the position of Assistant Head Coach for ROW Swim Club and WLU Golden Hawks Swimming.

Joe Bartoch needs no introduction in the sport of swimming. He has represented Canada on the National Team for over 10 years. He has been Swim Canada’s Butterflyer of the Year three times (2006, 2008, 2011), and holds several Canadian butterfly records. Internationally, Joe competed in both 2008 and 2012 Olympics. He has represented Canada at four World Championships, two Pan Pac Championships, one Pan American Games and three World University Games. (click here to read more)
