He retired from competitive swimming in 2008 after spending 4 years as a member of the Canadian National Swim Team and representing Canada at the 2003 Pan-American Games. During his 20 year career he participated in all possible levels of competitions: development, regional, provincial, university, national championship, international championship and multi-sport competitions.

While swimming Matt attended the University of Waterloo and completed both an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and a masters degree in Management Sciences. While representing the University of Waterloo in the pool, he was twice named Academic All-Canadian, 4 times OUA Swimmer of the Meet and a 2 time Athlete of the Year.

Since his retirement Matt has coached athletes who have been successful at regional, provincial, national and international competitions. He is always looking forward to passing on his knowledge and his learned experiences in the sport onto his swimmers and teaching them skill development and mastery.
